From LoveToKnow Cars

Finding Black Book Values Online For the USA
The Black Book USA offers products for individuals and dealers to help place a value on used vehicles. Only GMAC uses black book values in the US, so chances are if you are buying a used General Motors vehicle and wish to finance it, the dealer will use the Black Book value. Founded in 1955 by three businessmen in Gainesville, Georgia, the Black Book continues to offer popular services.
If you visit the USA website, you’ll find the following products:
- Black Book Daily
- Used Car and Light Truck Values
- Finance Advance
- Pricing Specifications
- Auction run Lists
- Collectible Vehicle Values
- Medium and Heavy Duty Trucks
None of the Black Book USA products are free. You can subscribe to one or more of their products by calling their toll-free phone number, 1-800-367-3759.
Finding Black Book Values Online for Canada
GMAC Canada offers a tool that allows you to find a value on your used vehicle if you want to trade it in and buy a new vehicle. The tool does utilize Black Book values, however, you must enter your trade-in information and the new vehicle you wish to purchase. After that you will be redirected to another page where you give GMAC Canada your email address and telephone number. While this service does consider the Black Book, once GMAC has your email address and telephone number, you should expect some emails and phone calls.
The Canadian Black Book website allows you to choose from:
- Wholesale/Retail Online
- Wholesale/Retail Printed Guide
- Collectibles and Exotics
- Online Trade-In Value Search
If you select the Online Trade-In Value Search, you will be directed to car dealers in specific areas where you can find out your Black Book value. Black Book does state that the values you receive are third-party values. If you choose the Wholesale/Retail Online, Printed Guide or Collectible Exotics tabs, it will redirect you to a form where you must supply your name, address, email and telephone to get pricing information. You can also call a toll-free number in Canada, 1-800-562-3150.
Where Can You Find Free Car Values
You won’t be able to find free Black Book values online unless you use the GMAC tool provided above. However, in both the US and Canada, there are websites that will give you a value for your used car:
Canada
- VMR Canada – This is a free website where you can find used car values, vehicle history reports, car reviews, and classic car pricing. They also offer a link to CarFax.
- AutoTrader Canada – Here you’ll find free car values. You can visit their research tab, post a classified ad, browse ads or find out about upcoming auto shows.
United States
- Kelley Blue Book – At Kelley Blue Book beyond used car values you can compare used cars, read reviews, find out your monthly payment, and read many articles about used vehicles and how to buy them.
