Canadian Black Book

From LoveToKnow Cars

If you’re wondering how much your new or used vehicle is worth, the Canadian Black Book (CBB) can help you find out. Considered the number one source for car values in Canada, the Black Book is a great resource for vehicle owners, car dealers, and potential auto buyers.

What is the Black Book?

When people buy or sell a vehicle, they need an accurate idea of its value. This value affects the initial pricing of the car, and it also helps car buyers during negotiations. The CBB allows people involved in auto sales to identify the value of a specific vehicle.

Currently, the Black Book estimates the value of both new and used cars and trucks, as well as commercial equipment, watercraft, snowmobiles, and motorcycles. A division of Hearst Business Media Corporation, the U.S. Black Book and its Canadian counterpart gather information about vehicle values through auctions and sales data.

History of the Black Book in Canada

In 1960, William Ward founded his auto appraisal business with his wife, Betty. They weathered many automotive changes and worked hard to build their reputation as the go-to source for auto values in Canada. After forming a partnership with Black Book USA, the Wards were able to expand their organization and its reputation.

CBB is now run by Kathy Ward. Her team of automotive experts works to provide car values for private customers as well as commercial applications.

Black Book Method

Over the years, the team at CBB perfected a method for estimating car values. Every week, the team attends automobile auctions and records selling prices for hundreds of cars. They meet directly with car dealers to get an accurate picture of the current automotive market.

Technology also plays a role in helping the organization estimate vehicle values. Many sales transactions are reported to CBB electronically, and special software helps the team make sense of the mountain of data they receive.

what a disappointment in your web site. all I wanted was an approximate price on my vehicle, but instead I was shuffled-off to a dealer's website. Will the car business really give consumers what they are looking for. This site surely doesn't!
